Summer is fast approaching, so here are a few tips on how to care for your relaxed or otherwise processed hair during this season.
- Go light on heavy oils– it gets very hot and humid in some places, so there is no need to use heavy oils such as castor oil. Be sparse with your oils and very generous with your water-based moisturizers.
- Drink water and stay a way from sweet juices – the more water you drink, the more hydrated your hair will be.
- Co-wash your hair in between shampoos – sweat is not good to leave on your hair. Co-wash is a combination of the words condition and wash. In other words, wash your relaxed or processed hair with conditioner instead of shampoo. This regimen is gentler on the hair and makes it soft and manageable.
- Head Coverings – Now this is the time to ask yourself “How much do I REALLY care about my hair?” Head coverings is a must have when swimming in pools or the sea. The chlorine in pools and the salt in the sea can wreak havoc on your strands. Get a head covering or swim cap that will secure your strands. Hey, It may not look sexy but at least your hair will be afterwards. It is also wise to wear head-wraps when the sun is really hot. Those UV rays will leave your relaxed hair limp and lifeless if you’re not careful. Check out our Facebook Page for some tutorials and hot head-wrap styles.
