To Weave or Not to Weave

What’s your take on the weave debate?

There are lots of theories that state that using weave in your hair is bad for it. But then there are thousands that use them as a way of growing their healthy hair. So why is it that this multi-million pound industry is taking the hair and beauty world by storm?

I am lucky, because I have quite long hair and so don’t really need to find ways of making my hair appear longer. I do however empathise and understand why there are many who do wear hair extensions. There are millions of women (and men) who wear them regularly and for special occasions.

Firstly, there is the huge number of celebrity backers: Beyonce wears them daily and always looks great, the stars of TOWIE are also advocates, with the likes Lauren Pope and others on the reality show that have started their own hair businesses. And of course, Rihanna, Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, Jordan… the list goes on, all wear them and in my opinion, look glamorous.

I’m quite fussy when it comes to my hair and I am waving the flag for natural flowing locks, but I’m happy to be proved otherwise?

The pros are that you can get long hair in a matter of minutes and there are so many colours and hair types it’s likely you’ll find a close match to your own hair. If you like colouring, straightening and doing whole host of styling using heat and products that contain damaging ingredients, then hair extensions mean you can do all of that to the fake hair, rather than your own.

The downside is that sometimes you can tell when someone is wearing weave and if you don’t get them put in by a professional, they can look awful! The other con is that some of the types of bonding can actual ruin your healthy hair underneath.
